“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

Finding Rest

Over-committed? Over-scheduled? Over-programmed? Over-stressed? Today’s world is fast-paced, crazy, and often relentless. Take a break from your weariness and find rest in Jesus among your church family in beautiful Montreat, NC. Over the weekend, we will learn about and practice the biblical concept of Sabbath, seeking that promised rest that can go with us down the mountain into our daily lives.

Can’t wait until September to find rest? MaryAnn McKibben-Dana’s book Sabbath in the Suburbs: A Family’s Experiment with Holy Time would make excellent optional reading before, during or after the retreat.

Accommodations

All rooms are in Montreat’s newly remodeled Assembly Inn. Most rooms have either a queen/king sized bed or two twin beds, though there is some variety in bed setup. In some cases, two rooms may be connected by a shared bathroom or a connecting door. Rooms will be assigned based on family size and configuration. Any family with more than three people in a room may be asked to bring additional bedding (air mattress, cot, sleeping bag, etc.) An additional room may be reserved for an additional cost. Participants attending alone may request or be assigned a roommate unless a private room is requested at an additional cost.

Children

While most of the retreat is designed to be intergenerational, nursery and separate children’s programming for those in preschool and elementary school is available during the Saturday morning program.

Youth

The youth will be joining in on the Church Retreat. They will worship and fellowship with everyone and then break away to “unplug” and find “rest” with our new Youth Director Mark Ashby. Find out why it’s important to find rest in our busy lives! Youth should register with their families for the retreat.
