Upcoming Opportunities

SPIHN Volunteers Needed

Will you volunteer to spend one night at our church so a temporarily homeless family has a safe, comfortable place to stay?

First Presbyterian Church is a member of the Spartanburg Interfaith Hospitality Network (SPIHN). SPIHN is a group of local churches who have come together to provide food and lodging for temporarily homeless families in our community. Each SPIHN church hosts families for a week at a time 4 times per year. Each time our church is a host, church members volunteer to spend a night at church. Overnight hosts get their own secure room with a bed. Overnight hosts arrive at 8:00 pm the night they will stay and are free to leave around 6:00am the next morning, after the families leave for the day. My goal is to find enough volunteers so each one will spend one night at the church.

If you want to volunteer, please let me know which night(s) work for you. Please also include a phone number you can be reached at in case of any emergency notifications. Saturday, November 7 is taken.

Visitation Committee Volunteers Needed

The Visitation Committee is in need of volunteers to visit one (or more) of our homebound members a month. The hope is that members of First Presbyterian can still feel “connected” to other members and the church by regular visits. If you are able to commit an hour or two of your time each month to make visits, please contact us.

Mobile Meals Drivers

Retiring? You are needed! Mobile Meals needs you to help deliver meals to the hungry homebound of Spartanburg!

Still working, but wish to contribute to your community? Can you give an hour or so to deliver meals to those in need? Weekly, every other week, or even once a month would be a BIG help!

If you are a student and need a breather from studying and want to do something that will feel good physically and emotionally, deliver meals to the needy.

If you don’t feel that you can commit to the structure of becoming a regular deliverer, then volunteer to be on the “substitute driver” list and contribute when you can! You can even be on the food line and serve up the meals.

If you have a heart for giving unto others, please consider Mobile Meals. Call Vivian Tanner or Paula Jakubchek at 573-7684 to make a difference.
