Weekend With First at the Blue Ridge Assembly - Black Mountain, NC
You are invited to join us for a fun-filled, rejuvenating weekend retreat in Black Mountain, NC. We will worship and enjoy fellowship in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
Dr. David Renwick and the Reverend Craig Foster will lead us in our weekend program, “Mountaintop Experiences of the Bible.” Through the stories of people’s encounters with God on the mountain, we too will be invited into a mountaintop experience of God’s presence with us.
During the weekend we will spend time together as a church—singing, praying, laughing and participating in the first ever First Pres Field Day!
Posted on January 15, 2010 Subject: Haiti Earthquake Relief
The devastation unfolding in Haiti, following the worst earthquake the country has suffered in 200 years, is horrifying to watch. Thousands of people are lost under tons of rubble. The nation’s government and fragile infrastructure have collapsed. News media report Haitians crying to God and to the world for help.
Let us be part of their answer. Join First Presbyerian Church’s mission to help Haiti:
1. Pray for the people of Haiti, for their families around the world, and for relief workers on site and traveling to serve them.
2. Give to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) www.pcusa.org/pda, the Presbyterian Church’s unified disaster response, by making a check to “First Presbyterian Church” and designating it for “Haiti Relief”. Church members may also give electronically through My First Pres through www.fpcspartanburg.org. PDA works with international relief agencies to provide immediate and long-term relief in disaster areas around the world.
3. Give to First Presbyterian Church's mission at the Haitian border in the Dominican Republic by making a check to “First Presbyterian Church” and designating it for “DR Mission”, or church members may give through My First Pres at www.fpcspartanburg.org. This February, two medical mission teams from First Presbyterian of 70 volunteers will travel to the western Dominican Republic to provide aid to Haitian refugees. Your support is needed to provide critical medical supplies, water, and food for refugees entering the Dominican Republic.
Mail checks to First Presbyterian Church, 393 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302-1917
4. Serve: July 10-17, another First Presbyterian mission team will travel to the Dominican Republic to continue work with refugees. The International Missions Committee of First Presbyterian Church is investigating further ways to serve the people of Haiti, including the possibility of a mission to Haiti itself. If you are interested in volunteering your time for Haiti Relief in the Dominican Republic or Haiti, please contact Shannon Stewart (sstewart@fpcspartanburg.org / 208-2132).
As we strive to help where hope seems lost, let us remember:
“God is our refuge and strength,/ a very present help in trouble./Therefore we will not fear,/though the earth should change,/though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea...” .......Psalm 46:1-2
Each February First Presbyterian Church-Spartanburg celebrates Witness Season, our annual campaign to support an international mission project.
This year we will raise funds for the Dominican Republic Child Nutrition Project on the border of Haiti, a program of Solid Rock Missions. Our church has served with Solid Rock in the Dominican Republic for over 15 years.
This public health program breaks the cycle of malnutrition on the Dominican Republic/Haitian border by providing food, medical care, and education to families in extreme poverty. In the aftermath of the Haitian earthquake, more children than ever are in need of basic support.
To give, designate your check to First Presbyterian for “Witness Season 2010”, or church members may give online at My First Pres.
