I'd like to volunteer for SPIHN, but what can I do?
As much or as little as you'd like! The FPC coordinators will guide you through any job you'd like to try. The duties we cover:
Dinner Provider: prepares one nutritious meal to feed the families staying with us. Has the meal ready at 6:00 p.m. in the private dining room off Fogarty Hall. If you wish, eat and visit with the families.
Lunch/Snacks Provider: purchase breakfast, lunch, and snack foods for our guests and have them at the church by 3:00 p.m. the Sunday of our rotation.
Clean-Up Volunteer: arrive to the church at about 6:30 one evening to clean-up after dinner. Takes about 45 minutes.
Set-Up or Take-Down Volunteer: Set-Up is Sunday around 2 PM for about an hour. Roll the beds into the rooms and set the rooms up for our guest families. Take-Down is the following Sunday at 7:00 p.m. and involves moving the beds back into the SPIHN trailer and rearranging the rooms so they are ready for Sunday School.
Evening Host: Arrive to the church by 6:30 p.m. and visit with the families until about 8 p.m. Talk to the guests, play with the children, help with homework, and provide friendly Christian companionship.
Overnight Host: Arrive to the church by 8:00 p.m. and spend one night in one of the youth rooms. Make sure the guests get in their rooms by 10:00 p.m. and wake-up on-time. This job works well for a couple to do together but can also be individuals.
Coordinator: Bigger job...makes sure each area is covered with volunteer help. Critical to our program's success. Call Dean (below) if you'd like to help.
Please contact Dean Sheorn at 590-1611 or dsheorn@yahoo.com for more information or to get in contact with a particular coordinator!
