Through our missions, First Presbyterian Church serves with those who are poor, sick, and in need to create a more just and equitable world. Our goal is to spread the message of God's love through service to our neighbors in Spartanburg and around the world.
We seek to meet immediate needs of people in crisis through support of local agencies like T.O.T.A.L. Ministries, Presbyterian missions like Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, and medical missions to such places as the Dominican Republic. We strive to address the root causes of problems in our world through after-school programs in Spartanburg County, investment in affordable housing initiatives like Habitat for Humanity, and dedicated prayer and study. We sustain the role of the Presbyterian church in this work through major investments in PC(USA) institutions of higher learning and church leadership development programs such as Celtic Cross at Presbyterian College. This is good news in Jesus: as children of God, across differences of ethnicity, wealth, and nationality, we work together to build God's kingdom of peace.
Our congregation focuses on two areas of service:
In each mission area, First Presbyterian focuses on three key issues:
- Healing
- Education
- Poverty
