Children at First Presbyterian

For Parents of Rising 4K Children

Please put 9:45 a.m., Sunday, August 15, on your calendar.

  • During the Sunday School hour, we will provide an orientation to Worship and to Children’s Worship for your rising 4K child and you.
  • Come and prepare for Rally Day on August 22, when your kindergartner will begin attending Worship with you.
  • Also learn about the Children’s Worship program provided during the 11:00 a.m. service.
  • Look for a postcard, coming soon, that will provide more details about the orientation for you and your child.

For Parents of Rising 1st Graders

Please plan to stay after the 11:00 a.m. service on Sunday, August 15, for an orientation to the elementary Sunday School program for your rising 1st grader and you.

  • Take a tour of the Sunday School classrooms on the second floor of the Clark Building with your child and learn about the Pathway 2 Truth (P2T) program. You and the children will have an opportunity to meet the P2T Shepherds for grade 1 and learn about how the program works.
  • Attending the orientation with your child is a great way to prepare him or her for a smooth transition to the new location and program.
  • Also plan to be here at 9:45 a.m. on Rally Day, August 22, when we will have a formal promotion ceremony for the rising 1st graders and give them their Bibles.
  • Look for a postcard, coming soon, that will provide details about both the orientation and Rally Day.

    Children's Sunday School

First Presbyterian’s formal Sunday School program begins with the three-year-old class in the Nursery and extends through grade 5, after which the children graduate to our Youth Sunday School program.

Through the Live B.I.G. curriculum our children ages 3-5 come to know the love of God through Jesus; learn key Bible stories and what they tell us about God and how He wants us to live; and begin to take what they have learned into their everyday lives. The Live B.I.G. lessons are presented through music, art, dance, sign language, discussion, hands-on activities, and much more. These same lessons are reinforced and extended in Children’s Worship. Our Preschool classes are located on the first floor of the Clark Building.

Pathway2TruthThe process of growing as disciples continues in grades 1-5 as children explore God’s Word with all of their senses in our interactive “Pathway2Truth” (P2T) Workshop Rotation Model. Every five weeks a theme or Bible story is selected as the focus for the rotation. Workshops are then designed to teach the story by using different learning styles and engaging the children in multiple ways. Each grade rotates to a different workshop each week, learning the same story, but in different ways. Our P2T classes are located on the second floor of the Clark Building in rooms decorated as The Temple, Joseph’s Workshop, Mary and Martha’s House, the Mount of Olives, the Sea of Galilee, and Heaven.com (our computer lab).

Through stewardship and mission projects, we teach our children about showing God’s grace by giving back to the world. The children annually collect an offering for Thornwell (a Presbyterian home for children) which uses the funds to buy clothing and school materials and pay medical expenses for children in need. They also participate in some of the yearly projects of First Presbyterian’s Mission Ministry.
